…and in my case, THANKS to blog networks who pay their bloggers with fixed monthly payment + traffic bonus and other frills.

Thanks too to the scarcity of science bloggers. At the moment, most scientists, doctors, medical practicioners and health workers are working in their respective industries, the academe, hospitals, research institutions, care-giving homes, etc. Even if they blog, I guess in normal conditions, they will not leave their work posts for problogging?

See Pinayexpat’s recent post for the carefully detailed description (including business models) of the different blog networks where she problogs and how to apply if you are interested in testing the problogging waters.

Apparently, I also currently blog for the 3 networks she specified, (b5media, Creative Weblogging and Know More Media) and I have been problogging fulltime for the seventh month this month (October) and in that course of time I have been supporting a household of 8: 6 adults (including me) and 2 toddlers, on top of building a house.

Well I know that may sound like crazy but due to personal family matters, it just happened that when I went full time problogger last April, everyone in my family went home a couple of months later. But that is an entirely different story.

Let me first clarify though that I did NOT quit my day job because of problogging. It just so happened that when I was done being a lab rat and decided to go home, problogging gave me a moving-out ticket.

Though I guess I was just luckier than most because I was there at the right place and time and knew the right persons who directed me to paying problogging gigs. So I applied, got accepted and there started my whirlwind romance with problogging –swept me off my feet literally, because I haven’t looked back since then.

But boy, it is hard work! Especially that I am located in a technologically-challenged province, not to mention typhoon prone. (Maybe if I’ve equipped myself with the proper amenities, then I guess It’ll be more fun than hard work.)

Hard work, yes. BUT with many pleasures. Because I am tremendously enjoying the stuff I do now with huge independence (not to mention the family support I have in raising my son).

I’ve yet to take off though with marketing strategies to drive more traffic into my blogs, but I’m sure that will truly change once I’ve equipped our home with a decent internet connection. (maybe in another 6 months I won’t have this problem anymore)

Meanwhile, like an addict looking for a fix, I’ll search every nook and cranny just to get online. ;-)

AND of course, I should mention the wonderful people of the blogosphere that I’ve met, online and offline: I wouldn’t have met them if I haven’t blogged at all. In different combinations, I learn, get inspired and get challenged by these people daily, which is really, really good.

Don’t ask me though about blog monetization and stuff, Abe blogs and talks about it a lot, I too have yet to learn. he he.

Oh yeah, I look forward to more problogging years and gigs, maybe in 3-6 months I’ll be ready for 2 more gigs. Ha ha!

Of course, I’ll put up my “home office” first so that my Raine will not complain anymore that I am always leaving him for long hours.

By the way: problogging is short for professional blogging. That’s what you call an individual who earns money from writing content for weblogs or blogs.

Just in case you haven’t heard the term yet. ;-)

Also, it is noteworthy to add Abe’s famous words, that there’s nothing greater than earning $$$ while in the Philippines.

To that I added, that there’s nothing more noble then spending those $$$ in the province and tending to your family, and yes including paying your parents’ bills like what the OFWs usually do. ;-)
