At least my body is!
If it isn’t not falling asleep at all, it is being awake in odd hours in the middle of the night at dawn. Like 1.30 to 2.00 am. Shit. I am really getting old! The only other people in the world who I know have such awful sleeping habits are my parents.
We call it “tulog manok”. You know, like the chicken - eyes maybe closed but it’s really as alert as awake. I hate it when my parents do that. Especially now that I live with my mother and she gets up with the littlest stirring in the house. Like tonight, that either my cellphone or my PC is still on. I even turned on the TV in the hope that I can sleep back. But with no luck. I’ve been up since 1.45!
BUT I so love to sleep. Now, I find myself sleeping in the middle of the day. Which is not really bad. But I don’t get that same refreshing feeling of afternoon naps when I’ve been up all night! Of course, that’s what you get when you try to regain lost sleep. You just don’t get it back. Ever.
Gosh. I really am getting old! He he. I hope I don’t have to resort to sleeping pills by age 45!
Last year when my mother got sick, i took the liberty of telling the doctor that she hasn’t been sleeping well since my father died. In fact the doctor didn’t recognize her because she looked a lot older and have lost a lot of weight. So the doctor prescribed Valium to help her sleep but on those nights only when sleeping is most difficult.
My mother took the pill on three occasions only. Though she easily went to sleep, after 4 hours or so, she’s up and about, though still a bit drowsy. She said she was a bit afraid that she won’t wake up anymore! At least she got four hours straight of sleep, even an hour or 2 is difficult for her.
My mother will turn 60 this year. Except for the sleeping problems and some excretory problems (she is perennially constipated as far as I can remember! she’s now taking meds for that too, every now and then), she’s really healthy. I mean, no diabetes, no hypertension, no arthritis nor rheumatism and any other condition common to people in her age bracket.
Well…as far as i know…I’m in tip-top shape too. Except for my stiff knees and my own kind of sleeping problems. Waaahhhh….I wanna reach the 60s! Like most games, it’s not easy staying healthy and getting older.
Today, there is even that big question of whether I’ll get there (60s age). I wanna get there and more, hopefully. Each day remains a surprise and a blessing!
Also, I get consolation in the fact that the women in my family lives longer and outlived their men. My greatgrandma, died at 92, in her sleep, no sickness, not any medical condition she suffered from. My grandma (still living), age 75 and is still kicking ass after 4 husbands and 8 kids (holy cow!!!). My mother, by the way she is now, will hopefully live longer too.
No worries, I just wanted to take advantage of the peace and quiet here. Except for my squeaky electric fan and the vehicles starting to pass by the road intermittently, it is so quiet in here!
