I remember when my father had to install cell phone amplifiers so that he’ll get a decent cellphone signal inside our house– the old Nokia 5110 was fixed in one spot, attached to an outdoor antenna up the roof.

Before he came up with that solution, when I came home one Christmas break I had to sit on his jeep’s roof so that text messages and calls from my friends could come in. No kidding!

Two years before that, my Nokia 909 didn’t have a signal here. I had to go 1-2 kilometers from this spot just so I could get a signal.

Fast forward to today, competing telcos have ample cellphone signals. Though one telco’s signal is now stronger than the other, the other has yet to have GPRS in my spot.

Though I am located between two town propers enjoying broadband and DSL connections from 2-3 providers, I remain outside of their coverage.

Last week, I suffered technical problems galore: first the telco account and then my PC sorta crashed, so I needed to get out there again to get online — to my demise. I’m just not used to using a public computer anymore and I got bothered by the people coming and going. Despite the good internet connection, I still wasn’t happy! :-P

Well…there’s nothing like working here at home where I can have coffee anytime I want, where I can lie down and put my feet up anytime I want.

So here I am again…using the crappy 20Pesos/hour GPRS connection on a newly upgraded PC RAM. The difference? I am happier.

A LOT happier, though broadband remains a dream! ;-)
