Raine is always saying he is getting ‘tired’ of going to school. It horrifies me whenever he says that. How can he be tired of going to school? He isn’t even in first grade yet! I was already in first grade when i turned six and as my mother is always saying, I was reading non-stop.

I know it is horrible to compare myself to Raine, there are just too much distraction these days. Besides, each child is different. And it is also true that he has been going to school/day care since he was two-and-a-half. His exams in school have deteriorated. Well…except the science part. I can’t help but be worried that he is showing signs of burn out and worse, disinterest with school stuff.

What to do? Now I am hesitating to send him to summer school as a bridge before first grade. Maybe I should just let him play all summer vacation? But then I am afraid he’d get too much play and not be focused when school starts in June.

Sana ay nasa mabuting kalagayan, kayong lahat.

Here are the ways I get online in the barrio in descending order of usability:

1. Nokia 6233 with a Globe prepaid sim — internet speed is  460.8 kbps. Data usage rate of Globe is 5 pesos/15 mins. The other good thing is that, the Nokia cellphone has a separate port for the charger and USB cable. So I can get online for hours without running out of battery. As long as the sim has enough load.

2. Motorola RAZR V3x with Smart postpaid sim — internet speed is 260.4 kbps. Data usage rate of Smart is 10 pesos/30 mins. While I have been using this system for almost two years now, I have always complained of running out of battery because there is only one port for the charger and the USB cable. Also, if I don’t watch it my phone bill can reach sky high.

3.  Globe Visibility prepaid — I bought this unit 2 months ago for 2,500 pesos. I was told by Globe that it will work on GPRS. Yes it worked alright, but the internet speed is only 3 kbps.

So there. If #s 1 and 2 fail, then I have to take the jeepney to the city to go to an internet cafe. Broadband remains a dream in my area. I guess looking for a Tennessee auto insurance is so much easier. ;-)

It’s been a year and it has been wonderful. I know you have a lot on your mind these days. Not to mention being tired physically and emotionally. That’s why I forgive you for forgetting what today is. ;-)

2 days before the new year, it started raining really hard. We even thought there was a typhoon coming because the winds were getting strong. I particularly panicked on the night of the 30th when the boys were out and our electricity was turned off. It is always a bad combination here: strong winds and brownout — it signifies typhoon is here. Fortunately the playing gig was postponed because of the bad weather and they all retreated to one of the band mate’s house in Gubat. They spent the night there and Raine survived the night without neither Mommy nor Lola. He was one of the big boys that night!

I thought the rain is going to leave us alone. It is still raining up to now. We can already plant rice in our yard and our laundry isn’t drying at all. Some will dry smelling like used socks. Yuck.

Other people in bicolandia: how are you faring with all these rain? According to the weather report, it’s because of the North-East monsoon. At least we don’t need snow chains!

1973  was the year I was born, it was the year of the ox. Could 2009 be my year? Considering that it’s the year of the ox too. Well 2008 has been a good year for me, in more ways than one. Maybe financially and health-wise not, but it has delivered many a good thing in other aspects of my life.

So i am very much looking forward to a better year this 2009. Isn’t that what the new year is all about — the hope the that new one will be better than the last? I think so. We strive for the better, for the best with the coming of the new year.

I wonder if 2009 will be good for business — small business franchise, anyone?

Well then I am claiming it now: 2009 is gonna be my year, in all things that are great! ;-)
