Smart Bro’s frequent down times recently is getting to my nerves! I’m thinking of getting a back-up ISP or maybe ditch Smart Bro altogether.

Here in my barriotic city, I have the following options:

Bayan DSL

Globe Broadband

Sun Broadband

Which one is better? I’d appreciate your feedback. Thanks a lot!

Recently…my days wouldn’t be complete without catching Simply KC. I know…I know…baka tumaas kilay nyo dyan! Well I can’t help it, natutuwa ako sa kanya. ;)

Anyways…I’m actually interested in buying her latest album. I think this song, Not Like The Movies (found via Snow’s blog) is included that album.

During the summer season I was commuting from the barrio to the city on a daily basis in order to work online. On the average, I was just working 8 am to 2 pm days, with the hope of accomplishing more during school days. It’s been two weeks now that classes are going on and my days have gone really crazy.

I have already mentioned that a cousin is staying with us here in the city to help me with chores and with sometimes with Raine. However, he is also a college student (whom I am sort of helping out financially) and unlike last semester, he’s got a crazy class schedule this time.

Therefore I am mostly alone here… favorable to the fact that I need some peace and quiet while working. However, a disadvantage at times because - like any parent with school kids - my mornings can get really hectic. And so I have recently been starting my day at 4 am just to get a head start on stuff.

However, after a few days of waking up too early…it has taken a toll on me…that by Wednesday I am already snoozing during the 7 pm news, leaving Raine to close-up the house, practically. It’s good to sleep early right? It’s just that when I sleep too early in the evenings, I’ll be up and about by midnight.

So instead of staring in the ceiling and tossing and turning in bed, I’ll be working instead. And you know how that goes…I’ll be online through dawn! Worse, I just have to be up by 6 am to take care of my school kid. You get the picture… Ill be a zombie the whole day!

The downside to working at home is you get cooped up inside your house, in front of your computer all the time. Even breathing can get difficult at times. Air inside can get stale you know. Your electric fan blowing hot air in the summer heat. A/C is still too expensive.

With my meager blog pay, the fan and the computer alone brings my electric bill to a sky-high level. Electric power is just too expensive around here…not to mention the crappiest service that these electric coops provide us with…

I wonder when Smart Bro/Wi-max/Whatever-DSL or something else (Satellite internet? 50+K PHP for the unit alone! On second thought, that’s just 1+K USD! He he.) will ever reach my barrio?

Hmmmmmmmmm… online business…online business…shopping cart system..not to sell used books ha! Secret muna. ;)

Oh well…in my mind there’s a perfect scenario I’m dreaming about. In my conversation with A over YM just now, this is what went on:

Me: u know.. times like these? i should be outside in our yard
kahit small table and beach umbrella lang
laptop ko andun
may internet! ;)
that would be THE life!

open air,
crickets in concert
cool wind caressing the leaves
the branches swaying with the wind. ;)
maybe a moon in the sky
starry skies
tapos mag yo yosi ka
tahimik! ahahha
SARAP!

A: this is not negative, how about mosquitos?
baka ma-dengue ;)

Me:  may electric mosquito killer naman
yung may UV light!

A: ok

Me:  a cocktail in the other hand

A: take it easy

Me: ang mga mahal mo sleeping soundly sa loob ng bahay

A:  yeah u want them sleeping kasi pasaway ;)

Me: exactly!
hahaha

Always, I have loved what The Serenity Prayer says:

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can
and the wisdom to know the difference.

In all of life’s hullaballoos, if you can do all that…then you are off to a really, really peaceful life. ;)

That way…there’s no need for pulse oximeters.

Fathers’ Day is special to me too. I’ve been a single parent and for years some friends of mine greet me on Fathers’ Day as well.

One advantage of being a single mom I guess, you get to be honored not just on Mothers’ Day but on Fathers’ Day too.I have a lot to say to Raine on this special day, but I’ll leave it for now and just include it in the LTR series one of these days.

Meanwhile.. I’ll just express some of my thoughts in a song. ;)

Corny I know (Raine will probably say ewwwww! when he gets to read this!), but what the heck?! It’s my life… di ba?

Letters To Raine& rants and musings& love and life19 Jun 2010 12:00 pm

My Dearest Raine,

Last night I was particularly very happy that you went to bed on your own. When I checked a few minutes later, you were sound asleep. You weren’t even stirring that I realized you must be dead-tired considering the first week of school. After 3 months of oversleeping, you are forced to wake up at 6 am again.

You know it really stresses me a lot when you can’t sleep without me beside you. There are times I’m still working and you keep nagging me to go to bed. I know I should give in to your right away… but there are times my muse is on it’s excited state that I can’t be disturbed. I’m sorry to say that your nagging disrupts my train of thoughts and it becomes too difficult to catch it back.

You see… it is just on Friday nights that I can have the TV to myself and for once watch something that I really want to watch. With some peace and quiet. That helps me sleep. Last night I finally went to bed at 12 midnight, you still weren’t stirring. Then the rain started to pour heavily — a huge blessing after months of dry spell. Besides, it got a lot cooler…making sleep more comfortable for the both of us. (more…)

I’ve decided to add 2 new categories to this blog that hopefully will take this blog to a new direction.

1) Letters To Raine (LTR)

It won’t be long that Raine is going to discover and read this blog to the letter. While he is mainly in 99% of the archives, I want to write blog entries that speaks directly to him. After all, he was the main reason this blog was created in 2004.

Letters to Raine will range from the mundane of stuff to life lessons I wanna document for him. I guess it would be nice that aside from talking a lot all the time to Raine, I have something in black in white to show him.

2) Glo’s Life Goals (GLG)

For somebody who has not been into resolutions and checklists, I wan’t to create a list of sorts for myself. Something I can tick off as I accomplish them. There’s just too much thoughts going through my head enough to keep me awake at night that I want to write them all (if possible!)  before I forget about them in the mornings.

So there…I hope you’ll watch out for it. ;)

Happy weekend everyone!

My money ran out so I am not yet done with Raine’s back-to-school shopping. I left out the big items such as trolley bag and a new rubber shoes. (Good thing that briefcases are not included in Raine’s shopping list!). Also.. small items like new white sandos and the likes.bMaybe in two week’s time (when the next pay arrives) I’ll be done with it all. I just needed to prioritize to stretch the budget.

On the other hand, we can wait 4 to 5 weeks more for my brother’s arrival. Raine was chatting with his Papa G yesterday and my brother promised to cover the items I haven’t bought (but Raine needs) when he comes home. Thank God for thoughtful brothers! ;)

Yesterday, I had the longest day ever! It was really crazy… Because I slept early the other night while putting Raine to sleep, I was wide awake really early the following morning - at 3 am! So I decided to go ahead with my online stuff, thinking that I’ll be able to accomplish way much before it’s time to prepare Raine for school at 6 am.

So when 6 am came, I took care of Raine, helped him prepare, brought him to school and I got back excited to get back to writing. However, less than an hour into it…I ended up voice-and-video chatting with a long-lost friend of mine. Before I knew it, it was already time to get ready for Raine’s lunch break.

After lunch, my brother was buzzing my computer when I got back here. He wanted to chat too. So we did. For more than 2 hours! I told you…yesterday was indeed chika day! He he. Anyways, I was able to insert some more blog entries after chatting with my brother. Then it was again time to pick up Raine at school by 4 pm. When we went home together, I still had to take care of Raine first for various things. After which, I cooked/prepared dinner while hand-washing the laundry. Talk about multi-tasking, right?

Good thing I got up really early today and got a head start with publishing blog entries. Little did I know that my day would be spent chatting away! A huge chunk of my morning was spent video-and-voice chatting with a long-lost friend now working in Qatar. It was really, really nice reconnecting with her. Before I knew it, it was time for Raine’s lunch break.

Then when I got back home after our lunch, my seaman brother was online and wanted to chat as well. So we then spent more than 2 hours of continuous video-and-voice chat on YM. It was really a lot of fun! If only my brother isn’t always too busy we could do this more often. Good thing he got a few hours of break earlier before his night shift.

Now, I should get  back to work! He he. ;)

You know what happens when you accidentally fall asleep early in the evening while putting your kid to bed? You get up like 3 am! ;) Ha ha ha!

Instead of tossing and turning in bed I decided to get up and go online. Thank God the internet connection is so much faster at this hour. I love it when the house is dark and I’m the only one up pounding on the keyboard.

The PC monitor solely illuminating my work table. Except for the nasty humming of my good, old electric fan (it is still too hot these days!), it’s pretty quiet around here.

And I love it!

So Raine started a new school year today (like the rest of the Philippines). Thankfully without fuss and with an excited positive outlook. First days in school are truly special so I personally took him to school this morning and lingered awhile to chat with the other parents whom I haven’t seen in the last 3 months.

In typical Filipino fashion, I got various comments like tumaba, bagay sayo straight hair mo and blooming ka today. ;) He he he. Outside the classroom door was the printed rooster of students in the said section. Many parents were delighted that the obnoxious kid in class was nowhere to be found on the list. (Raine are I were over the moon! Yes! It was more like malignant Mesothelioma that went into remission. In short, nabunutan talaga kami ng malaking tinik na mag-ina!).

Later on we found out that the said kid transfered to another school. The reason? Who cares! Ha ha ha.

Anyways…there was supposed to be an 8-hour brownout in the city today. For some miracle unknown to humans, the brownout didn’t happen. I particularly got up at 4 am so I can get online early in the day to take care of some stuff already before the said brownout happens. It’s past 2 pm and I’m still online. (Less than 2 hours na lang, 12 hours na akong online!)  ;)

Life is good!

Spent the day cleaning the house, fixing our ‘bed’, ironing Raine’s uniforms and shopping for grocery items (mostly Raine’s food!). Good thing there were no patio cushions to clean. That would have been a total waste of my time!

But I was able to insert some time for a much-needed pedicure (yey!) and published a few blog entries. I now have the evenings for blogging as well, as we are now housed in the city. Weekends only in the barrio for the next 10 months, until the school year wraps up.

So…here we go first day of school! ;)

Karate Kid 2010lI have a confession to make: In my teens, I was a fan of the Karate Kid movies. I watched all three including that ‘new karate kid” with Hilary Swank. So it’s like a birthday gift to me when the new Karate Kid remake premiered Monday night in L.A.

It is starring Will and Jada Smith’s son Jaden and of course my favorite in the whole world…Jackie Chan! What could I ask more? It’s like everything you’ve ever wanted in one plate. ;) Ha ha! Except that it’s a feast for your eyes, not your stomach.

Okay.. so Ralph Macchio has mixed feelings on the movie’s remake…is he really 48 years old now?! He even looks different!

He admitted being old. Well I may be old too but I am not too old to watch Karate Kid this time. I don’t care if this remake disappoints, as long as Jackie Chan is in it then I am sold. ;)Yey! Happy birthday to me…I don’t need a sleep aid tonight. I’m too tired carrying Raine’s shopping bags.

Told you I stopped counting at 25!Age is just a number you see…it is what’s in your heart and what you have become that really matters in aging or old age whichever way you want to look at it.Remember that aging resulted to the best wines in the world…

In my teens, I just worried about the best acne medicine. Tomorrow I’ll be worried whether my money is enough for Raine’s back-to-school shopping. It is still Raine’s even on my special day. Oh well…I’ll just insert a few items of my own. ;)

Cheers! I wanna have 37 more years and still more years to come…

I still have no use for night cream! Even in my late 30s, I remain with an oily face. However, I’ve long ditched the old habit of Eskinol and for months now I have been using papaya soap only. With best results! Even my brown birthmark on one cheek disappeared. ;)

Anyways, like every woman my age I guess, I’m too am watching out for wrinkles. Oh no! Good thing they haven’t appeared yet. Old age sucks I think. I can feel that in my bones! White hairs in my head have sprouted. I stopped pulling them out because I notice that they have multiplied exponentially. So I gave in. I can’t wait to color my hair red when they all white!

I’ve recently shopped for tops in the maxi-wear for ladies department over the web (a friend of mine in LB is selling via Facebook). Yes, I won’t be in denial anymore.

I’m not going to hide the flabs (that even fat burners won’t burn!)  in loose T-shirts but instead got myself some in-fashion preggy-look tops that really hide those flabs perfectly. ;)

I tried two pieces and the maxi-size I chose fitted me well. Just thing morning, I choose 3 more styles for future ordering! Ha ha ha!There’s one more thing I’m gonna try on just for kicks: skinny jeans! I’ll see how it goes…
